Transit Systems celebrates community and workforce inclusion

A specially wrapped bus will take to Sydney steets in support of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2026

Transit Systems is hitting the streets with pride, literally. As part of its ongoing commitment to community and workforce inclusion, the company is sending a specially wrapped bus on a rolling mission to raise awareness, spark conversations, and spread messages of acceptance across the city.

The iconic Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival, recognised internationally for championing diversity, self-expression, and unity, is an opportunity to continue supporting the LGBTQIA+ community according to NSW Managing Director Rino Matarazzo.

“Transit Systems has been a proud and consistent supporter of Mardi Gras for many years, and we are pleased to continue standing alongside the LGBTQIA+ community,” he said.

In previous years, Transit Systems has proudly launched vibrant pink and rainbow-wrapped buses that have operated in regular service and taken part in Mardi Gras parade festivities, turning every journey into a moving celebration of pride, acceptance, and community.

“Continuing that support matters. It’s about showing up, being visible, and reinforcing that everyone should feel safe, welcome and accepted when travelling on public transport.”

Mr Matarazzo said that strength lies in diversity for both the communities they serve and in their own workforce.

“Each year, it’s a chance for us to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community while fostering a culture of inclusion and respect within our workforce. Where we embrace different perspectives, it genuinely allows people to thrive,” he said.

As part of this year’s Mardi Gras program, the specially wrapped bus will operate across network services throughout the festival period and form part of Transit Systems’ broader support for the event.

Transit Systems has also confirmed its support for the Sissy Ball on 27 February by operating a dedicated charter service at no cost to Mardi Gras, and free for ticket holders. The customised route will provide transport to and from Marrickville Town Hall, picking up passengers from Central Station and Marrickville Station and returning them at the conclusion of the event, helping more people safely access the celebration.

This continues a tradition of advocacy and visibility that has seen Transit Systems vehicles act as moving symbols of pride and inclusion, helping to ensure that both customers and staff feel respected and represented.

“We are committed to advancing diversity across our network and in the communities we serve, and recognise that visible support and celebration have positive impacts far beyond festival season, from creating safer public spaces to strengthening workplace culture for all employees,” he said.
