Swan Transit, WA was proud to take part in the Clontarf Perth Employment Forum held on 16 June at Belmont Park Racecourse. The event focused on supporting young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men as they explore future career opportunities.
Representing Swan Transit at the forum were Steve Henderson, Anu Shah and Liz Stoner, who connected with students through a small job fair and delivered practical mock interview sessions designed to build confidence and job-readiness skills.
Building Confidence and Capability
A key highlight of the day was the mock interview sessions, where students had the opportunity to practise their responses, receive feedback, and gain insight into what employers are looking for.
The Swan Transit team found the experience equally rewarding, seeing firsthand the impact that guidance and encouragement can have.
“It was incredibly rewarding to work with the students and see their confidence grow, even within a short session. They were engaged, eager to learn and open to feedback.” – Steve Henderson, Swan Transit
“The mock interviews gave us a chance to share practical advice and help break down some of the barriers young people can feel when entering the workforce.” – Anu Shah, Swan Transit
Connecting Talent with Opportunity
In addition to the interview sessions, the team spoke with students about the wide range of career opportunities available within public transport and the broader transit industry.
These conversations helped showcase the diverse pathways available and encouraged students to consider new possibilities.
“There was a lot of curiosity about the industry, and it was great to highlight the different roles available from operations through to support functions.” – Liz Stoner, Swan Transit
A Meaningful Partnership
Swan Transit’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and help create meaningful employment pathways.
“Events like this are so important. It’s not just about recruitment—it’s about building relationships, sharing knowledge and supporting the next generation as they prepare for their careers.” – Liz Stoner, Swan Transit
Looking Ahead
Through its partnership with organisations like the Clontarf Foundation, Swan Transit remains committed to making a positive impact in the communities it serves by helping young people gain the confidence, skills and connections they need to succeed.
