Transit Systems is committed to creating inclusive transport options, most recently recognised through the launch of South Australia’s purpose-built mobile sensory bus, operated locally by Torrens Transit and sponsored by Kelsian Group.
This project shows the power of modern transport solutions, in that they can also nurture connection, community and provide additional support outside of a scheduled timetable.
The sensory bus, a retired Adelaide Metro vehicle that has been refurbished into a welcoming mobile space, was launched during the OzAsia Festival’s Moon Lantern Trail. The is already booked for major events across Adelaide, including the Adelaide 500, Tour Down Under and Multicultural Festival, as well as being bookable by organisations.
The project is brought together government, industry and community, and Transit Systems is proud to be involved with Autism SA.
The exterior of the bus features vibrant artwork created by two autistic South Australians through a competition and handpicked by the autistic advisory group.
As South Australia’s Minister for Transport Emily Bourke said: “South Australia is famous for its events and festivals and now even more people will be able to enjoy them with a new mobile sensory bus. The purpose-built sensory bus will provide a welcoming environment for autistic people and their families who want to access a sensory space at major events.”
Transport is about more than schedules and routes - it’s about enabling people to live full, engaged lives, and with the dedicated sensory bus, it means means more families can attend a carnival, festival or sports event.
We look forward to seeing the bus roll into venues, festivies and community events across South Australia and spotlighting the difference it will make for many. To everyone who collaborated - thank you for helping shape a transport network that feels for all.
Stay tuned to be part of the journey - not just of movement, but of community.
