Adelaide Metro's first electric bus charging hub officially opens at Morphettville Depot

Transit Systems, operating in Adelaide as Torrens Transit, has celebrated a major milestone in South Australia's transition to cleaner, more sustainable public transport with the official opening of Adelaide Metro's first dedicated electric bus charging hub at our Morphettville Depot.

This marks a significant step forward in the electrification of Adelaide's bus network and reinforces our commitment to delivering a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.

Powering the Future of Public Transport.
The new charging hub features 60 electric bus charging stations, providing the infrastructure needed to support Adelaide Metro's growing battery electric bus fleet. Already, 55 new battery electric buses are operating across the network, helping to reduce emissions while delivering a quieter and more comfortable journey for customers.

Driving Meaningful Environmental Impact
The environmental benefits of the new electric fleet are significant. Once all 60 electric buses are in operation, they will remove approximately 4,500 tonnes of carbon emissions each year compared with the ageing diesel and gas buses they are replacing. That's the equivalent of removing the annual emissions produced by more than 1,500 homes.

Managing Director of Torrens Transit, Andrew Jenkinson, said the opening of the charging hub and operation of electric buses from Morphettville represented a significant milestone for the business.

“We’re proud to partner with the South Australian Government to deliver cleaner, more reliable, sustainable public transport while continuing to connect people to where they want to go and need to be.”

A Strong Partnership for a Sustainable Future
The opening of the Morphettville charging hub highlights the strong partnership between Transit Systems, Torrens Transit and the South Australian Government in delivering innovative transport solutions that benefit both passengers and the environment.
