Transit Systems partners with Programmed Training Services and NSW Department of Education to inspire future transport professionals

Transit Systems, in collaboration with Programmed Training Services and the NSW Department of Education Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP), has announced an exciting new initiative aimed at showcasing the world of mass transport and the myriad of career opportunities possible for the next generation of multi-transport professionals.

The partnership between Transit Systems, Programmed Training Services, and the NSW Department of Education represents a commitment to promoting awareness of the diverse career pathways within the mass transport industry, including apprenticeships and cadetships.

Over the next 12 months, Transit Systems will be hosting a series of workshops at Sydney high schools, sharing their insights on the myriad of career opportunities and engaging students in conversations in this dynamic and expanding sector.

The inaugural event for this initiative took place at Transit Systems’ Hoxton Park Depot earlier this month, where it hosted students from Cecils Hills High School and Minarah College for an informative and involved session. It was a day filled with inspiration, as students had the opportunity to learn about the opportunities available within Transit Systems and the broader mass transport industry.

The training session featured a young first apprentice who shared personal experiences and perspectives on working within the transport industry, shedding light on the exciting opportunities it presents to aspiring professionals. Students also gained an in-depth understanding of Programmed and their pivotal role within the transport sector. The day was filled with interactive elements, including a dynamic Q&A session and a workshop tour, where students were enlightened about the intricacies of multi-transport-related work. To cap off the session, students received comprehensive information about potential career pathways, including work experience, School-Based apprenticeships, and full-time opportunities, ensuring they left with a roadmap towards a promising future in the transport field.

Jamie Sinclair, Transit Systems NSW Managing Director said, "We are excited to join forces with Programmed Training Services and the NSW Department of Education in this endeavour.

“The industry is growing at a rapid rate therefore initiatives like these are crucial to engage and educate young people about the opportunities available in the mass transport sector where there are significant careers opportunities to fill in the short term and long term” he said.

Transit Systems General Manager People and Culture added “Transit Systems is committed to fostering the next generation of mass transport professionals. We believe that by introducing students to the world of public transportation, we can inspire them to pursue fulfilling careers in our industry,” she said.

According to Daniel Prophet, Area Manager NSW/ACT, the information sessions are an opportunity to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in careers they are interested in pursuing.

“We are very excited to offer these opportunities to showcase our range of customers and roles we have available for students to start their careers. We are very proud of the part we play in assisting students in making informed decisions in a career choice and being able to offer and support these roles for the length of the apprenticeship and traineeship.

“These collaborations are so important as it gives us the opportunity to showcase blue- and white-collar apprenticeships and careers to students to assist them in making a choice about their future. We offer these sessions across a range of industries with our customers to help students make informed decisions, ask questions and get hands on experience to try the trade or role before they commit.” Daniel added.
