Torrens Transit Onboard as Elder Park Christmas Carols Sponsor

Media Release 25 August, 2019

Carols by candlelight has been given a lifeline – and a new name – with sponsor Torrens Transit rallying to the call to save Christmas.

Torrens Transit Candles by Candlelight will deliver the 75th edition of the community’s oldest carols on Saturday 7 December 2019.

Torrens Transit has been operating in Adelaide for almost two decades with more than 700 buses and 1,200 employees locally. The Australian owned and family operated transport company has a long history of local sponsorship/charitable initiatives in Adelaide including the Variety Kid’s Christmas Party and Dulcies Shop of Real Opportunity. It also supports the Little Heroes Foundation, West Beach Surf Life Saving Club and the Hutt Street Centre.

Parent company, Transit Systems, currently operates domestically and internationally, with operations in New South Wales, South Australia (Torrens Transit), Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, as well as London and Singapore.

Transit Systems CEO, and local resident Clint Feuerherdt said he has fond memories of the Carols by Candlelight event.

“At Torrens Transit, we pride ourselves in being involved in our communities, supporting opportunities and events where locals can come together and celebrate with their families and friends,” Mr Feuerherdt said.

“We are thrilled to announce our sponsorship of the Torrens Transit Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park, bringing this event to the community for free so that families can continue the tradition.

“As an Adelaide resident I’m looking forward to attending the Adelaide Carols again this year with my own family,” he said.

Funds raised by Carols by Candlelight help community-based disability organisation Novita, which provides rehabilitation, therapy and support services to thousands of children, young people and adults across South Australia.

Last year the event spread festive cheer to more than 30,000 people in Elder Park. It is broadcast nationally and reaches around 130,000 viewers on average.

The Christmas Network General Manager, Kay Lawrence, says, “This adored event has brought families and friends together since 1944. In a spirit of warmth, harmony and goodwill, Adelaide Carols will continue to be one of South Australia’s most loved public events.”

Through the dedicated work of Novita, Carols by Candlelight continues to support South Australians in need.
