Torrens Transit proud to champion cultural diversity through Ambassador Program

Torrens Transit is proud to be among the first transport operators in South Australia to complete the Multicultural South Australia Ambassador Program, reinforcing our commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Since its launch in November 2023, the South Australian Government’s Ambassador Program has provided practical support and training to help organisations across the state embed the principles of the South Australian Multicultural Charter — a framework that promotes unity, harmony and respect for cultural diversity.

Over a six-month journey, our team participated in workshops, assessments, and planning sessions designed to deepen cultural awareness, review internal practices, and develop strategies to better support staff from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

“The program has helped Torrens Transit develop a comprehensive action plan for promoting and supporting cultural diversity and inclusion,” said Phil Gilbert, People and Culture Manager at Torrens Transit.

“We are committed to continuing our efforts to create a more inclusive workplace and are looking forward to seeing the positive short and long-term impact of the program on our employees and customers.”

So far, 15 South Australian organisations — including businesses, local councils and not-for-profits — have completed the program. Many, like Torrens Transit, are now rolling out initiatives such as:

•           CALD-focused employment pathways

•           Cultural competence training

•           Buddy and mentoring programs

•           Language-accessible services and communications

•           Flexible workplace practices to support cultural needs
