On the road to reconciliation: Students from the Clontarf Foundation visit Transit Systems
As part of National Reconciliation Week, Transit Systems NSW proudly hosted students from the Clontarf Foundation at the Bradbury Depot for a meaningful day of connection, learning, and cultural exchange on Wednesday 28 May.
This special visit celebrated the importance of reconciliation through First Nations storytelling, a Smoking Ceremony, and interactive engagement activities between Clontarf kids and the Transit Systems NSW leadership team.
The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. Clontarf uses the power of sport and mentorship to support students to stay engaged in their education and transition into meaningful employment. The Foundation currently supports thousands of young men nationwide, helping them unlock their potential and become positive role models in their communities.
The day commenced with a Welcome and Acknowledgement of Country followed by a Smoking Ceremony facilitated by Josh Sly. Students then shared personal stories before joining Transit Systems staff in team-building and cultural games.
A thank you presentation was led by incoming Transit Systems NSW Managing Director Rino Matarazzo, with all participating students receiving a special gift.
“This event not only reinforces our commitment to reconciliation but highlights the power of community connection and respect.
“Our partnership with the Clontarf Foundation is about more than just opportunity - it’s about connection, respect, and building a better future together. Events like this give us the chance to learn from each other and create a workplace that reflects the values of inclusion and reconciliation.”
Mark Peters, Executive General Manager Business Operations, Transit Systems Group, said they were proud to welcome the Clontarf students as part of National Reconciliation Week.
“These young men are future leaders, and it’s a privilege for our team to support their journey, listen to their stories, and continue walking the path of reconciliation together.”
The Clontarf Foundation relies on its partnerships with various organisations to support its mission of improving the education, discipline, and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. These partnerships provide advocacy, resources and various opportunities for our young men to engage with industry and ultimately increase their chance of success.
Clontarf Foundation said they are excited for future engagements and work site visits with Transit Systems and their staff.
