International knowledge exchange fuels zero emissions progress

Transit Systems recently welcomed a delegation from Indonesia to our Leichhardt Depot, where we shared insights into Australia’s transition to zero-emissions transport and learned from their decarbonisation efforts.

Held on Tuesday, 22 July, the visit was part of an ongoing international collaboration under the Decarbonisation Pathways for Indonesia’s Bus Infrastructure (DIBI) project. This initiative forms part of the first transport decarbonisation program under the MoU between the Governments of Indonesia and Australia.

Transit Systems’ General Manager of E-Mobility and Fleet, James McCarthy, and Strategy and Projects Manager, Krizell Aligam, hosted the session, which included discussions on:

  • The Leichhardt 100% Electrification Project, which will soon become Australia’s first fully electrified bus depot

  • Practical considerations in the roll-out of zero-emissions infrastructure and fleet

  • Operational learnings from Transit Systems’ electric bus deployments

The Indonesian delegates brought a wealth of experience and shared updates on their decarbonisation work across Surakarta, Palembang, and Bandung.

Visiting delegates included:

  • Mr Taufik Muhammad, Head of Transport Services, City Government of Surakarta

  • Mr Muhammad Nur Fajri, First Spatial Planner, City Government of Surakarta

  • Mr Asyari Ilyas Nasution, CEO, PT Global Transport Mandiri

  • Dr Budi Yulianto, Senior Lecturer and Transport Researcher, Universitas Sebelas Maret

  • Dr Idris Sulaiman, Field Research Manager, DIBI Project

Following the session, the group toured Leichhardt Depot, where they observed the electric bus operations and infrastructure construction progress.

“We’re proud to share our journey and learn from others on the same path. These international partnerships not only broaden our perspective but help us collectively shape a more sustainable future,” said James McCarthy.

The visit underscored the growing global momentum behind zero-emissions transport — a future we’re committed to leading.
