Transit Systems’ Horizons West transporting athletes at the 2023 World Transplant Games

Horizons West, part of Australia’s largest multi-modal transport operator, Transit Systems, was the official provider of transport services for athletes in the 2023 World Transplant Games, held in Perth last month.

From 13th April to 22nd April, Horizons West provided more than 13,000 customer connections to venues and hotels, with the biggest single transfer consisting of 1600 customers.

The 2023 World Transport Games, held for the third time in Australia since its inception in 1978, was open to those who have received heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, stem cells and bone marrow transplants, as well as their families, donor families, living donors and supporters.  As the world’s largest awareness event to celebrate the gift of life, The World Transplant Games, occurs every two years in different cities around the globe.

According to Michael McGee, CEO, Transit Systems, it was an honour for Horizons West to be involved in such a significant event, which not only creates a wonderful community atmosphere for the 3000 participants in helping to improve their health and fitness, but also is an invaluable opportunity to promote organ donation and encourage more people across the world to register and support organ donation.

“We had the privilege to transport participants to a host of sports across Perth, including cycling, table tennis, swimming, athletics and basketball.  The seven-day event was choc-a-block with excitement, emotion and energy, especially when we had participants from a range of ages and from all corners of the globe attending,” Mr McGee said.

“Our team was humbled to be able to not only transport participants to where they needed to be, but also have the opportunity to talk to them about their extraordinary personal journeys.  At Horizons West, as with all Transit Systems businesses, customer service is our top priority and to have this chance to transport this very special group of people, was a very important and significant responsibility for us.”

“It was also a great opportunity for the participants to get to experience Perth and all it has to offer, especially with its beautiful sights and state-of-the-art sporting venues.

“It was a terrific event to be part of and its community spirit was in abundance for the city and staff to enjoy.”
