Transit Systems unveils new double decker buses
Sydney commuters will be seeing double this month, as Transit Systems launches two brand new double deck buses into service, catering to increased patronage growth in the Transport for NSW Contract 3 region.
These are the first of six new double deck buses, funded by the NSW Government, with the remainder of the new fleet to be delivered progressively over the next few months.
Set to increase patronage capacity on the T80, Transit Systems CEO Clint Feuerherdt said the double deck vehicles are licenced to seat 97 passengers.
“Since 2013 Transit Systems has experienced an 12 per cent increase in overall customer satisfaction (between 2012 and 2016), with patronage on the T80 also increasing by 29% to date,” he said.
Under the management of Transit Systems, the T80 service between Parramatta and Liverpool has become Sydney’s first bus rapid transport route, operating a 5 minute frequency service during peak periods.
Service improvements delivered by Transit Systems include key changes such as simplifying timetables, delivering consistent frequency and adding brand new buses – making it easier for commuters to use according to Feuerherdt.
“We are committed to ensuring safe and convenient trips, and continually work to improve connections, timetabling and reliability.
“We’ve already achieved double digit patronage growth and Transit Systems is excited to get these brand new vehicles into operation to continue improving services for the community,” he said.
The double deck buses are designed and manufactured in Australia, and require specialist bus driver training implemented by the manufacturer, as well as a Heavy Vehicle licence.
