As a member of the Transit Systems group, Swan Transit commenced operating bus services in Western Australia in the Midland contract area in January 1996. As the first private operator to win contracts in Transperth's competitive tendering of Perth's bus services, Swan Transit quickly established itself as a flexible innovative operator. This early success was repeated in July 1996 when Swan Transit was again awarded two more contracts to operate in the Canning and Southern River areas. The meteoritic growth of the company continued in early 1998 with the company being awarded the Kalamunda and Armadale South contract areas. In January 1999 Swan Transit's reputation for sound management practices was again recognised when it was selected to manage Perth's new Circleroute bus service.
Swan Transit took over the contracts for Claremont and Belmont in 2002. In December 2006 Swan Transit was successful is retaining the Claremont and Belmont contracts after a retendering process. Swan Transit's claim as Perth's leading provider of public transport services, was again vindicated by the results of the Passenger Satisfaction Monitor surveys. The survey, Commissioned by the West Australian Department of Planning and Infrastructure and conducted by independent survey company Painted Dog Research, is carried out over the entire Transperth network.Patrons were asked such questions as their satisfaction with the cleanliness of the vehicle, drivers route knowledge and driving skills.
