Torrens Transit has established a Business Management System that incorporates the both the Safety and Quality requirements of AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 and AS/NZS 4801:2001. Senior management reviews the overall effectiveness of Business Management System and progress towards achieving Targets and Objectives at regular review meetings.
Safety and Injury Management Policy
Torrens Transit is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all of its employees, passengers, contractors and visitors, by:
- Complying with Duty of Care requirements in regards to Occupational Health & Safety
- Avoiding, eliminating and/or controlling workplace hazards.
- Setting and complying with measurable objectives.
- Providing a safe working environment.
- Continuously improve the standard of occupational safety and health for all employees recognising its Duty of Care.
- Conforming to current legislation, regulations, codes of practice and appropriate standards.
- Consulting with employees to continuously improve the safety system.
Torrens Transit is committed to assisting injured employees to return to work as soon as appropriate within medical guidelines, and will adhere to the requirements of the relevant legislation in the event of a work related injury or illness. Management supports the injury management process and recognises that success relies on the active participation and cooperation of the employee and medical providers in providing an equitable and transparent claims' management system.
The overall responsibility for implementing this policy, ensuring legislative requirements are met and taking reasonable steps to provide a safe workplace and safe systems of work within Torrens Transit rests with the Director of Services and Planning who is the nominated Responsible Officer
The Support Services Manager has the responsibility of co-ordinating the activities in relation to the effective implementation and monitoring of this policy and safety programs.
The Area Managers and line managers are responsible for ensuring that the required activities and procedures to effectively implement this policy at the depot level are undertaken and the required resources are available..
Employees are responsible for ensuring that the required tasks are completed with due regard to their own safety and the safety of others and actively participating in the implementation and maintenance of safety policies and safety programs.
Contractors and visitors are required to abide by both legislative and Torrens Transit's safety requirements.
Torrens Transit has established through a consultative approach an effective and efficient communication and consultative system, both internally and externally. Employees shall be involved in the development, implementation and review of our policies and procedures.
Details of the hazards and risks associated with the business are detailed in the Business Management System Manual.
Torrens Transit is committed to provide the time and resources required to establish, implement and monitor the safety system, including the use of external expertise when required.
This policy shall be kept under continuous review by Torrens Transit and its employees through a consultative process, and shall be formally reviewed at least every two years and will be available to all appropriate interested parties
Safety Management System
It is Torrens Transit's policy to implement and maintain a safety system, which conforms to the requirements of International Standard AS/NZS 4801:2001. This safety system covers all operational areas of the organisation.
The system has been audited by Bureau Veritas Quality Internal (BVQI) to the requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 on 29th February 2008.
Safety Committees have been established representing management and employee interests at all depots and handle safety matters on a consultative basis at each depot. Issues relating to safety that affect Torrens Transit at an organisational level are dealt with at the Safety Committees and submitted for approval at the managers' meeting.
Occupational Safety and Health is to be an agenda item at all managers' meetings.

Quality Management System
Torrens Transit has established a Quality Management System. The system was audited by Bureau Veritas Quality Internal (BVQI) to the requirements of the Quality Standard AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 on 19th October 2001. As a consequence, a Certificate of Approval was issued.
The effective implementation of the Quality Management System is the responsibility of all employees.
The Support Services Manager is the nominated Quality Representative for Torrens Transit who has the responsibility for ensuring ongoing compliance with the standard.
