Embarking/Disembarking/Standing
You must wait for the all clear from the Deckhand/Master before embarking or disembarking the vessel. To ensure complete safety and to avoid injury, passengers must remain seated at all times if seats are available until the vessel is stationary and securely tied up by the deckhand. If you are required to stand you must do so only in areas that are equiped with handrails. Passengers are not permitted to stand up and talk to the Master and/or deckhand whilst the vessel is in motion. BIT will not accept responsibility for any injury sustained to passengers not adhering to the above regulation.
Carriage of Freight
All freight transported on ferries is at the owner's risk and BIT takes no responsibility for loss or damage.
Freight quantities are limited. BIT reserves the right to refuse the carriage of any freight items, accompanied or unaccompanied, when designated freight area are full, and/or the safety and comfort of passengers and crew could be at risk.

BIT is a passenger ferry service. Please contact your local transport operator for large freight deliveries.
Carriage of Dangerous Goods
The Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act requires that only approved fuel containers are permitted on our vessels. Approved containers are either labelled or stamped with an Australian Standard number (AS 2906). The Standard specifies requirements for portable, petroleum-product fuel containers made of metal or plastic, of nominal capacity up to and including 25 litres, intended to be refilled. Containers covered by this Standard are suitable for use with leaded, unleaded and super grades of petrol, two-stroke engine fuel, kerosene and distillate.
These containers are to be stowed by the deckhand on the bow of each vessel in the designated area.
Non-conforming fuel containers i.e. old oil drums etc will not be carried on our vessels. It is the responsibility of the Master to ensure these rules are adhered to.
BIT have the right to refuse transportation of any fuel container not meeting the required Standard.
Concession/Pension Card Holders
Queensland Transport regulations require that all Pension Concession Card holders produce their concession card upon purchase of ticket either onboard or from the ticket office. Pension cards must also be produced onboard when tickets are presented to the deckhand for "clicking".
Only the principal card holder is entitled to the discounted fare. Other persons listed on the card do not qualify. Each member listed on the concession card must have their own card to qualify for a discounted fare. Failure to produce a valid concession card will result in a full monetary fare being charged. Concession cards cannot be used to pay other classes of fare i.e. child, adult or student.
Seniors Card from any state, Veterans Affairs Gold Card and Centrelink PCC issued in Queensland are valid cards and will be honoured. Seniors Business Cards and Health Care cards are not valid concession cards and will not be accepted.
Smoking and Consumption of Alcohol/Disorderly Behaviour
Queensland Transport Regulations do not permit smoking or consumption of alcohol on our vessels. Random on the spot fines are issued by Queensland Police and/or Queensland Transport Officers. Intoxicated persons or disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated and refusal of entry to board the vessel may result.
Dog Transport Policy
In the interest of passenger safety, all dogs travelling on the Waterbus must be clean, dry and restrained by a proper collar, muzzle and lead. Dogs are not permitted to travel on seats. (Small dogs may be held on your lap). The Master of the vessel has the authority to refuse entry to any dog not deemed acceptable. Animals cited in Redland Shire “Prohibited Dog Breeds Policy” will not be carried. These dogs include American Pit Bull Terriers, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa (Japanese)
Student Travel
State and High School student passes are only valid from Monday to Friday. Students are required to carry their passes with them at all times. University Students and/or TAFE Students are not eligible for a student pass with the exception of Course number CN920. They are eligible for the Student Discount Ticket as long as they have a current Student ID card. Student behaviour must be in accordance with school boat rules as provided with the school pass. Students must wait for all other passengers to disembark before boarding the vessel.
Bicycles
Bicycles are permitted on the ferries and passengers are requested to have some means of securing the bicycle (elastic strap). At times bicycles may be stowed on the front deck.
