Bay Islands Transit (formerly Bay Islands Taxi Service) was established in 1982 to provide the Bay Islands community with safe, fast, reliable water transport to the mainland.
The Bay Islands are located in the beautiful Moreton Bay Marine Park and are just a few of the treasures Moreton Bay has to offer.
Moreton Bay stretches 125 kilometers from Caloundra to the Gold Coast and was declared a Marine Park in 1993. It boasts one Island for every day of the year, as well as dolphins, dugongs, turtles and migratory birds.
Some areas have significant aboriginal and European cultural heritage values. Unlike a National Park on land where all landscapes and wildlife are preserved to the greatest possible extent, Marine Park allows people to do most things while still protecting the natural environment. More information can be obtained from the DERM.
Once on board one of our four large catamarans your only worry will be which island to see first with the options of Karragarra, Macleay, Lamb and Russell Islands, but don't worry too much, the Moreton Bay magnet is sure to bring you back. The 60 ft catamarans have a passenger capacity of up to 150 persons.
The boats run on a regular timetable throughout the day, 7 days a week servicing all islands on a continual basis. We do not transport vehicles of any sort though push bikes can be taken on the vessels. The boats are wheel chair friendly likewise all the jetties on the islands and mainland are wheelchair accessible.
If you are a resident on one of the islands or a visitor, the service can cater for your needs. The service starts in the early hours of the morning going through to late evening. You can travel between the islands, from the mainland to the islands or even do a round trip if you just want to see the area.
Group Bookings
We cater to Group bookings. If your itinerary does not coincide with the scheduled runs, we can organize a special run for your group. Ring our friendly office staff on (07) 3409 1145 between 8.30am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday. The vessels are also available for private charter with prices on application.
