Sealink acquires Transit Systems Marine
6 November 2015
Transit Systems has today sold its marine transport division (‘Transit Systems Marine’) to the SeaLink Travel Group (‘SeaLink’). SeaLink, an ASX listed company (ASX: SLK), has acquired 100% of Transit Systems Marine operations. The sale includes all of Transit Systems’ ferry operations in Queensland, including the assets and operations of Stradbroke Ferries, Bay Islands Transit and Transit Systems Gladstone.
Transit Systems first entered the marine transport industry in 2005 via the acquisition of the Bay Islands Water Taxi which serviced the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. Over the next 10 years the marine operations were expanded and by 2011, Transit Systems Marine had become the owner and operator of the largest private ferry fleet in Australia. Prior to the sale, Transit Systems Marine had operated a fleet of 33 vessels, including state of the art high speed passenger catamarans, roll-on roll-off vehicular barges and specialised high speed emergency response vessels.
Through the acquisition of Transit Systems Marine, SeaLink has become the largest marine operator in Australia. The consolidated group employees over 900 staff, operating a fleet of 60 vessels that transport over 6 million passengers each year.
